#NHS1000miles to celebrate the NHS’s 75th Anniversary

To mark the NHS’s 75th birthday in July 2023 even more special, people across the country are being invited to join the NHS1000 mile challenge. The goal is to walk, run, swim, or cycle (or a combination) a total distance of 1,000 miles throughout the year, averaging about 2.74 miles per day.

As participants track their weekly miles, they are encouraged to share their progress every Sunday night at 7:30pm, using the hashtag #NHS1000miles. Taking part in this challenge not only celebrates the NHS’s milestone, but it also offers benefits for both physical and mental well-being. Best of all, participating in the NHS1000 miles challenge is completely free!

However, here’s an idea to take it a step further: Why not consider getting sponsored to complete your 1,000 miles and raise funds for a charity of your choice? By seeking support from friends, family, and colleagues, you can ask them to pledge a donation for each mile you cover.

This way, you not only contribute to the NHS1000 mile challenge, but you also make a positive impact by raising money for a worthy cause.

To embark on your sponsorship journey, you can follow these steps:

  1. Select a charity: Choose a charity that aligns with your values or supports a cause you are passionate about. Several charities focus on healthcare, medical research, or other causes that resonate with the NHS’s mission.

  2. Create a fundraising page: Establish an online fundraising page on platforms such as JustGiving, Virgin Money Giving, or GoFundMe. These platforms enable you to share your story, track your progress, and collect donations easily.

  3. Share your challenge: Spread the word about your participation in the NHS1000 mile challenge and your sponsorship efforts. Inform your friends, family, colleagues, and social media followers about what you’re undertaking and why it is significant. Clearly explain how their donations can make a difference.

  4. Set a fundraising goal: Determine an amount you aim to raise throughout the challenge. Having a specific target can serve as motivation for both yourself and potential sponsors.

  5. Seek support: Personally reach out to people you know and request their sponsorship. You can send e-mails, make phone calls, or have face-to-face conversations. Clearly convey the details of the challenge, the distance you plan to cover, and the charity you wish to support. Emphasize that any contribution, no matter how small, will have an impact.

  6. Share updates and milestones: Keep your sponsors informed about your progress by sharing regular updates, celebrating milestones, and expressing gratitude for their support.

By combining the NHS1000 mile challenge with sponsorship efforts, you can make a meaningful difference, while celebrating the NHS’s 75th birthday.
