Keeping Fit & Healthy - Beck's Reason!
Becks has been coming to Droitwich Leisure Centre for about 8 years, getting involved in a wide range of the facilities & activities. Becks says: "it's a happy place, I always come out feeling invigorated. So glad my friend invited me as I wouldn’t have had the confidence to go alone at the time. Exercise is a fundamental piece of me & I knew I was missing something when I stopped looking after myself during those typical teenage years & into my twenties. I should have joined earlier so making up for it, work in process…"
What's your next challenge?
"It’s the first time they’re holding a 10k run from Worcester Warriors in May so I’m excited for a new challenge & course. It’s quite local to home so sections of it will be familiar and make up my training runs. Come rain or shine, the wind in your hair, I’m out there; in fact I’m known for going out in bright shorts & T-shirts year round. It’s great being out in the fresh air, seeing the seasons change with nature."
Why do you enjoy fitness?
"I love the freedom & flexibility of running, & that sense of accomplishment. It’s a real confidence booster. Mentally & physically I’m a healthier & happier person. I would encourage anyone to try a small walk, jog, run, get moving; the running bug is clearly catching as more family and friends are joining me in the Race for Life too this year. "
What is your fitness routine?
"I generally run 3-4 days a week, with my longest on ‘Sunday run day’. I try to balance my fitness with gym classes 3-4 times a week and particularly enjoy the social togetherness of group workouts. It’s an undulating route so I’ve been working on strength training, hoping all those squats in Pump and Kettlebells pay dividend."
"Then power work in One More Rep, along with general cardio & improving my VO2 max with Metafit. Can’t beat the endorphins from exercise. It’s part of my daily routine & a non negotiable in the diary, so engrained it’s habit & part of who I am. I must get it from my Dad, who’s also joining me on the run. I remember stomping around in his trainers to get the feel as a kid, they seemed jumbo then and I’ve still got the love of shoes."
What is your biggest challenges when exercising?
"The biggest competition is with myself & to surprise myself what I’m capable of, it’s so worth that extra push when you cross the finish line..."
