Staff at Evesham Leisure Centre have been put through their paces during the summer in order to learn the fundamentals of gym and fitness instructing. From anatomy and physiology principles, to training concepts and teaching methods, staff will now be able to apply what they’ve learned to better help and support members in their fitness endeavours.

With a Level 2 Gym Instructor Certificate, the staff can also progress their fitness career even further through a host of potential avenues, such as a Level 3 Personal Training Certificate.

The course was delivered through HFE, one of the UK’s leading training providers to the fitness industry. HFE offer a range of fitness-based courses, including personal training, Pilates and yoga, whilst also providing various specialised development routes including nutrition, obesity and pre- and post-natal certifications.

Nigel Grundy, Area Manager for Rivers Fitness and course tutor at HFE, said:

“Our ethos at Rivers Fitness is to have a diverse and multi-skilled workforce at a time when staff levels are at their lowest. As well as the staff, our members and visitors will benefit from having a team with greater knowledge to pass on.

This hopefully will be the first course of many, as we are always keen to keep developing our own staff.

We chose HFE because of the quality and standard of the course provision and combined with the fact that staff gain a qualification that is both industry recognised and professionally accredited.”

Lee Cain from HFE said:

“It’s so refreshing to see an organisation such as Rivers Fitness investing back into their own staff. It’s common for employers in the fitness industry to leave staff to find and fund their own professional development. It shows that Rivers Fitness are taking a progressive approach, putting both staff and members at the front of their operations.”
